Corporate & Rose Rock Regatta!

Last weekend OKC hosted a double regatta. The morning was corporate races and the afternoon we had a Master's regatta. The Corporate regatta was the same as last year and we had a lot of the same folks on the team this year. We raced in the open novice category and took gold by 16 seconds (in case you're wondering that's a LOT)!

After the fun of Corporate Clay and hung out for a LONG afternoon of Master's rowing. It was about 105F outside so by the end of the day we were exhausted. The wind was also killer so they canceled some of the races. I ended up racing 2 doubles, a mixed and a women's.

My first double was with Liz. I had only raced one other double, I had never raced with Liz, and I had never bowed a boat. (If you're the bow in a double you're steering and that's not easy.) So we decided it was going to be an experience race and we had some personal goals. Overall we took 4th on raw time, but we took 5th since the other team's handicap beat ours. In rowing you get an age handicap.

I love this picture because you can see Liz and I pulling past the Wichita boat.

And we pull through the finish line!

My last race of the day was with Bryan who had just raced 5 races in a row (he's an animal!)! So he was spent and it had been a long hot day for me. So the race wasn't pretty but Clay got some great pics. Clay hoped on the launch (which is the motored boat that the coach rides in) and was able to get some pics all along the race!
